Whitchurch 132 vs Tamworth 0

Following last weeks defeat at Shrewsbury Whitchurch were looking at keeping promotion on track. They faced a Tamworth side who had lost heavily to Crewe and Nantwich the week before and suffered again.

The afternoon started badly for the visitors as they received the kick off, spilled the ball for Whitchurch to pick it up and pass to James Marvell on the wing to score under the posts in the first minute. George Owen kicked the conversion. The home side then received the and the defensive frailties of the travelling team showed as man of the match Alfie Linnington broke through tackles to score again for Owen to convert, that was 2 tries in the first 5 minutes and Tamworth knew they were in for a tough afternoon. George Owen got the next try on the 15 minute mark followed by 2 more tries from James Marvell, 2 from Robbie Leighton, 2 from Tom Tilley, another from Linnington and one from veteran Steve Bloore to make the score 71 : 0 at the break.

Tamworth never gave up but the speed of the Whitchurch backs was just too much for them and 2 tries from Will Lever, 2 more for Robbie Leighton, 2 more for James Marvell, and one each for Ben mason, Alex Clarke and Henry Appleby brought about a record-breaking Whitchurch score line of 132 : 0

A free weekend next week for Easter and the both sides travel to Telford the following week.
