Telford Hornets 5 vs Whitchurch 78
As the season draws to a close this was a must win game for Whitchurch to maintain their ambitions of promotion at the first attempt following relegation last year. Telford were the bigger stronger team with some experience in the forwards and it took 10 minutes for the younger faster Whitchurch backs to break through with Robbie Leighton going through to score following quick ball from a scrum. George Owen secured the conversion to give the travelling supporters something to cheer and warm them up on this cold windy afternoon. Just 2 minutes later scrum half Will Lever spotted the gap following a line out from Danny Nicholas’s long kick with the help of the wind to score for Owen to convert. Telford then broke from the half way line and scored in the corner to keep themselves in the game half way through the first half. Man of the match George Owen then went over for the away side following sustained pressure from the Whitchurch team and kicked the conversion. Owen then went on another run and passed out to Robbie Leighton to score again as Whitchurch started to take control of the game. Leighton then set off on his attacking runs side stepping defenders from the half way line to score the try of the game scoring under the posts for Owen to convert to give Whitchurch a 34 : 5 lead at the interval.
Early in the second half saw Tom Tilley score after a good run by Ciaran Dunne Owen then scored again following a 35 metre run avoiding defenders with dummy pass and Telford started to look a beaten side. Substitute Sean O Donnell came on for injured Steve Bloore and made his presence felt with some solid tackling before being fed the ball by Owen to score for Owen to convert again. Then replacement scrum half Max Clarke then made a great run from half way beating off tackles and as he got tackles just a couple of metres short he set the ball up for O Donnell to score his second. Then following a good strong run from Matt Cliffe who off loaded in the tackle to give Robbie Leighton then got his 4th. try of the game, again converted by Owen. Alex Clarke then made a run and beat off the defenders and score under the posts and then with almost the last play of the game James Marvell got the ball and ran in from half way beating the defenders with his pace to give a last conversion in front of the posts to leave the final score Telford 5 Whitchurch 78.

Another fine performance for the unbeaten second team with 7 tries from veteran Rob Kellett, 2 from captain Jack Rowley, and impressive performances from the colts Charlie Fletcher and Tom Edwards making their senior team's debut both being awarded joint man of the match. Chalie Fletcherscoring once and Tom Edwards grabbing a brace to secure the victory. Tom Skone kicked a couple of conversions.
Next weekend both teams can secure promotion if the first team beat second placed Crewe and Nantwich and the second team beat Trentham. Both teams are at home with kick off at 3pm so all support would be greatly appreciated as these will be the games at home this season.
